6 Home Brands to Know

FEATURE: LONG READ
Words by Bridie Newman, Niamh Murphy & Amy Broomfield

Nothing beats the thrill of discovering under-the-radar homeware designers – and the brands found in the Home & Furniture department at Harrods promise to bring a stylish jolt of joy to your interiors. From hand-painted ceramics to statement lighting and revolutionary bedlinen, say hello to your new homeware obsessions.

Jonathan Adler

Irreverence, whimsy and a big dose of colour – Jonathan Adler’s tabletop creations are the very definition of happy interiors. Look out for bold patterns and attention-grabbing silhouettes in the form of ceramic vases, slogan-emblazoned canisters and quirky decanters. The modernist Mustique collection brings vibrancy into the home with hand-poured marbleised salad bowls and vases while striking home accessories – think face sculptured reed diffusers and salt and pepper shakers – make the perfect dinner party conversation starters.

Shleep

When it comes to sleep, one size definitely doesn't fit all, but the one thing that counts more than anything is the quality. Look to Indi McCullough, a once-exhausted advertising executive who took it upon herself to re-evaluate how to get the perfect 40 winks. Her bedding brand, Shleep, uses Australian merino wool and its natural fibres and temperature-regulating properties have proven to get you to sleep 25 per cent faster than other materials.Take its naturally weighted fleece blanket, for example, heavy and tactile, it is the antidote to long, stressful days.

Lladró

Any homebody knows you can never have too many lamps, especially when they are as well-made and eye-catching as these Wes Anderson-approved designs from Lladró. For these cordless table lamps, carved wood is swapped for the brand’s signature glazed porcelain including the lamp shade, a translucent porcelain screen. Opt for the Firefly collection inspired by the light emitted by fireflies or the Kokeshi collection which takes the silhouette of traditional dolls from Japan’s Tohoku region – both have glossy bases with gold toned detailing which will subtly bounce light around your home.

Laetitia Rouget

When a home brand describes its products as made ‘with love and naughtiness’, you know you’re in for a collection of joyful, tongue-in-cheek interiors. French artist Laetitia Rouget’s pastel-painted ceramics are just that. Expect uplifting vases that are just as beautiful as the flowers that fill them, slogan plates that reveal witty quips as the food disappears, smile-inducing candlestick holders and cartoonish tricket boxes – everything Laetitia Rouget touches exudes joie de vivre.

Wedgwood

Josiah Wedgwood’s brainchild has been going strong for well over a century and is synonymous with fine ceramics, so Wedgwood is hardly a new brand on the homeware scene. Still, interior enthusiasts take note – Wedgwood has recently released a 2024 take on its signature Florentine design. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of thetimeless pattern, the brand has reimagined it in a sea of vivid colours. Make your dinner setting pop by mixing and matching colourways or opt for a bold aesthetic by embracing a single hue.

Slamp

At first glance, you might mistake these intricate Italian-made lamps for ornaments, but they are in fact decorative design lamps from Slamp. Hand-crafted using unbreakable technopolymer sheets that are cold cut so as not to release harmful emissions, each lamp ismeticulously shaped by hand as if they were textiles. The brand also calls its all-female team of sculptors the Sarte della Luce, which translates to Seamstresses of Light. The result? A poetic bouquet that comes to light – quite literally – after dark. You’ll want to keep these ambience-enhancing pieces on display.
