Stylish Ramadan Table Décor Ideas

FEATURE: LONG READ

If you’re cooking an elaborate feast (Anisa Karolia’s creamy chicken moons or Noor Murad’s celebration rice for iftar, perhaps?), there’s an aspect that shouldn’t be overlooked: the décor. Set with sumptuous linens, elegant ceramics and decorative accessories, your table can form the centrepiece of your gathering, setting the tone for the occasion. Here, four seasoned hosts share their expert advice for how best to create an inviting atmosphere.

Swap Neutrals for Rich Jewel Tones

Dressing the table with a selection of vibrant hues instantly makes it feel celebratory. And no, you don’t have to stick to one shade. In fact, influencer and certified bright table advocate, Soraya Bakhtiar encourages colour-mix confidence by avoiding an overly co-ordinated aesthetic while still “sticking to a maximum of four colours within a palette, or opposites but always complementary tones”. Following Bakhtiar’s lead, we’ve started with a neutral backdrop and then layered gleaming gold with pops of complementary jewel-toned glassware and plates.

A Ramadan table should be elegant, cosy, and comfortable, encapsulating the essence of the month with a wholesome and welcoming dining environment.

Level Up: Play with Height

Level Up: Play with Height

Mix and match the heights of your tableware using varying tumblers, candles and small vases filled with vibrant dried flowers. Founder of The Art Supper, Farah Tajeddin recommends “scattering vases of different sizes and shapes across the table, filled with orchids, lilies, tulips and lush greenery – or use branches to create striking arrangements.”

Dried or fresh flowers are essential and add an extra dash of colour but choose small vases with low heights so you’re able to see the person in front of you, making the atmosphere feel less formal.

Get Creative with Your Centrepiece

Step aside candles and lavish bouquets. According to Farah Tajeddin, true centrepiece originality comes in the form of – drum roll please – fruit. Pick fresh and dried fruits that complement the colour scheme, and pair with a plate of filled dates from the Chocolate Hall and Farhi's gold-toned sugared almonds. Just don’t forget the napkins.

“Avoid a cliché setup and think creatively, for instance, consider incorporating fresh and dried fruit like apricots, figs and pomegranate and just watch how it elevates the ambiance.”

A table of food and decorated for Ramadan

KAMILLA OMARZAY

I grew up in a household where food was the centre of all family gatherings. It binds, connects and brings people together, especially during Ramadan. It’s the one month where I eat intuitively, feeding my body what it craves and what feels right for me.
