The Most Romantic Restaurants in Harrods

Feature: Long Read
Words By Heidi Lauth Beasley & Bridie Newman

Date nights come in many different forms. There are those evenings you spend sipping Beaujolais on a beach two thousand miles from your sofa, and then there are the Friday nights spent sharing a takeaway alongside the comforting acoustics of David Attenborough’s voice. Both are delightful, of course, but when it comes to a romantic setting for two, few things can live up to the unadulterated glee of sitting down for a meal together.

That’s why we’d like to introduce you to our selection of sophisticated romance-ready restaurants that can be found right here, in Harrods. Whether you’re in the market for a low-lit dim sum spot to add to your date night rotation or an anniversary-worthy terrace with panoramic views and a world-renowned chef at the helm, these restaurants will set the scene for a date night to remember.

Studio Frantzén

Studio Frantzén is a confident smile in fine dining form. The dimly lit Scandinavian setting will make you feel miles away from the hustle and bustle of the store, and in case skyline views are your aphrodisiac of choice, there’s also a heated rooftop terrace.

At the helm, is critically acclaimed chef Björn Frantzén, with a menu of Nordic flavours by way of Asian delicacies – think ribeye for-two with pine-scented smoked bone marrow and oxtail ponzu. For date night traditionalists, we recommend the grilled oysters, or for a truly memorable meal, opt for the laminated milk bread (if you know, you know). Finish the evening in Scandinavian style with an akvavit nightcap on the terrace.

Chai Wu

If your date started with a day of shopping – because you are in the best place for it – Chai Wu will welcome you into its relaxing and elegant space with open arms. Request a low-lit booth under the wooden panelled interiors and settle in for a feast of contemporary Chinese dishes and a fusion of flavours from across Asia.

Beyond the signature dishes, there are steamed dim sum platters, an extensive sushi list and a vast array of vegetarian options, including silky braised tofu in oyster sauce. It’s also a great place to pop the question – 'shall we share a dessert platter, darling?'.

The Grill

The Grill is the kind of quintessentially classy restaurant that will cover the stylish dining essentials – think indulgent dauphinoise, a shared bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and warm yet discrete service – so that you can focus on compliments and conversation.

Inside the historic Harrods Dining Hall, this sophisticated steak restaurant is famed for its quality cuts of meat, including Japanese Kobe fillet and tender Australian Wagyu, all meticulously selected by our in-house butcher. To complete your night, be sure to share the decadently rich grand-cru milk chocolate and smoked caramel marquise and The Grill’s fresh take on a night cap for the ages – the peach boulevardier.

Sushi by Masa

There was a time when you needed a passport to experience three-Michelin-starred chef Masayoshi ‘Masa’ Takayama’s expert sushi in Manhattan. Now, you simply need to make your way to Knightsbridge. The celebrated sushi master’s first venture outside of the US, you can expect a counter dining experience that is two-parts sleek and chic dinner and one-part show.

Take your seats and watch as tender sashimi is placed on silver platters and caviar is added to the pinnacle cut of tuna, toro. It’s grown-up, it’s intimate and the signature Taisho martini is just the thing to set the tone for in-jokes and your favourite outfit.

Em Sherif

Em Sherif first captured the hearts – and stomachs – of Beirut in 2011. Luckily for our Great British Romantics, you can find their first outpost in Europe here in Harrods, with a tantalising menu featuring sesame-studded falafels, sautéed Wagyu and pistachio baklava.

In a private area on the Second Floor, the walls are a deep shade of Yves Klein blue and it’s undeniably the perfect place to take the cuisine connoisseur for a Lebanese meal to remember – particularly if they’re partial to best hummus in London bragging rights and a bottle of Lebanese Chardonnay to salute the weekend. A toast: to being the best-fed couple in town.

Pasta Evangelists

When you want to feel like you’re in a Federico Fellini film eating authentic Italian food, you know you’re in safe hands when Giancarlo Perbellini, the chef behind two-Michelin-star restaurant in Verona: Casa Perbellini, is at the helm. Sat beneath the splendour of the historic Grade-II listed Dining Hall, watch as the chefs cook your favourite fresh pasta dishes, all while being serenaded by live music.

Order a pasta sharing selection – we recommend the tender beef ragu with ribbons of mafaldine, spicy lobster spaghetti with semi-dried tomato and basil and the cacio e pepe with cave-aged pecorino. If you can, leave space for the tiramisu that will have you reminiscing about that honeymoon. You won’t want to leave.

Baccarat Bar

If you take your nightcaps seriously, then chances are you’ve already heard about our world-class cocktail hideaway. One of London’s best-kept secrets for those in the know, Baccarat Bar has its own dedicated entrance on Hans Crescent. Descend the theatrical staircase and behind the curtain, you’ll find plush leather and velvet banquettes to sink into under opulent crystal chandeliers.

The cocktail menu – all served in Baccarat crystal – has aptly been designed in pairs, each featuring a shared raw ingredient but with their own unique flavour profiles. Finding your favourite of the two makes for an entertaining date-night activity. And if you get peckish, order the cheese selection – it would be rude not to.

The Tiffany Blue Box Cafe

In case you’ve never come across a certain film involving Audrey Hepburn and a scene that prompted a thousand girls’ ambition learn Moon River on guitar, you should know that Tiffany’s has a rich history of being the darling diamond du jour of romance.

Channel the iconic Capote hit with breakfast together at the Tiffany Blue Box Cafe on the Lower Ground Floor. Expect all-butter croissants, Champagne cocktails and carats, of course – all in a powder blue room that’s all the evidence we need that dates before 12PM can be just as romantic as their candlelit counterparts.
