How To Artfully Dress Up Your Bathroom

Feature: Long Read
Words By Shannan Sterne and Bridie Newman

You may have noticed a surge of tastefully decorated powder rooms sprinkled across your Instagram feed, often showcasing a carefully placed candle or two among incredibly enviable shelfies. This is what is known as 'bathscaping'. Borrowing its name from tablescaping (the art of dressing your table), bathscaping is equally creative and requires the most exquisite of tastes in both beauty and homeware. Yes, soaking in the tub is no longer just about a well-deserved R&R, it’s also the perfect opportunity to show off your new Missoni bathmat and rearrange your skincare besties. Get ready for the hottest bathscaping trends– from bright and bold-jewel tones to the bougiest bathmats, we’re here to make bathtime beautiful.

Bold-Jewel Tones

All things bright and beautiful are officially IN – we saw the models down the Versace catwalk donning a bright green eye, created by none other than, Dame Pat McGrath – and we’re ready to inject that same spirit into our bathrooms. If you’re lucky enough to have emerald-hued tiles already, clash them with an Annissa Kermiche Jugs Vase (another Instagram fave) and a psychedelic bathmat like the Abyss & Habidecor Midnight Bathmat. Blue and yellow complement each other on the colour wheel, so the canary-coloured Drybar Paddle Brush will slot nicely into the scene. Finish with a pot of the light yet hydrating, Augustinus Bader cream – that cobalt-blue packaging is especially iconic in this gemlike setting.

Celebrate Earth Day: Natural Japandi

When you’re pairing back your bathroom with a minimalist, Japanese-meets-Scandinavian aesthetic, the key is to ask yourself this question: what would Marie Kondo do? And as she famously says, if it doesn’t spark joy, then leave it out. Start by neatly arranging an extra-gentle exfoliator and a scalp-nourishing conditioner on your Labrazel Ambarino Onyx Tray before climbing into the bath for a soak. And make sure to have some Uchino bath towels and an Oyuna Cashmere Legere Robe to wrap yourself in when you emerge. Our top tip? Fill your powder room with plants aplenty, they’ll purify the air, eliminate bacteria, absorb extra moisture and make you feel connected to mother earth – a great way to embrace National Earth Day.

This year has seen a surge in all things pastel, evoking an era of glitz and glamour – think Miami Beach in the fifties. Transport yourself to sunnier climates as you flick through an Assouline book and breathe in the soothing floral notes of Byredo’s Rose of No Man’s Land Body Lotion. And let’s face it, if H beauty had a bathroom, this would be it – so it’s only natural to include the beauty destination’s trending skincare and haircare brands such as Ouai and Sol de Janiero – and if it’s good enough for Hailey Bieber, it’s good enough for us. Another trick, layer your bathmats for added fun, choose between two or three bright colours from Missoni Home and artistically overlap them – the results are Instagram gold.

Period Meets Modern

Old-Meets-New

Period Meets Modern

The secret to creating that Soho House, lived-in charm is the mix of old and new. And as Bridgerton has taught us, period-style themes can also be contemporary, so opt for a modern bath with traditional faucets. Pepper your powder room with Le Labo’s apothecary-style skincare, plus forever-favourite fragrances from Cire Trudon and award-winning serums from Estée Lauder. After a pamper session, cosy up in a big, fluffy towel or robe from Tekla. Much like the cult-status organic towels, this is a bathscaping trend that won’t date.
